For this week's online blog assignment, please respond to the following prompt:
With your knowledge of solving equations, analyze Derek's work with this equation. Is his answer reasonable? Where did he go wrong (Step 1 or Step 2)? What can Derek do to ensure he gets the correct solution?
In your response, answer each of the questions in bold above. Be sure you answer ALL of the questions COMPLETELY. Your response could be in the form of sentences or bullet points.

- Use any vocabulary terms that you've learned that could be relevant in your response.
Have fun blogging! I can't wait to read your responses!

Derek went wrong on step 1 because his equation was not equivalent. An equation always has to be equivalent. According to the dictionary and my math notebook, an equation is a statement that the two values of two mathematical expressions are equal (=). 72 divided by eight is not eight, it's nine.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your statement because Step 1 is where he used inverse operation to solve for the variable d. He is not incorrect with this step, but instead, he miscalculated the value of the variable d. You are correct by saying d = 9, although he made a mistake in Step 2 and not in Step 1.
DeleteI know i just noticed that now but thanx for correcting. I didn't see that I put step one ;)
DeleteSo the answer must be d=9.
ReplyDeleteDerek is incorrect in Step 2 when he divides 72 by 8 and gets the quotient of 8. He answered Step 1 correctly because he is using the inverse operation of multiplication (which is division) to isolate the variable d. He miscalculated the quotient and got d = 8 instead of getting the correct quotient of 9. Therefore, Derek should have gotten d = 9 instead of d = 8.
ReplyDeleteGreat explanation I agree with you because derek does't know how to divide. ehh jokes he miscalculated.
DeleteAwesome explanation MC
DeleteI agree with you MC
DeleteVery funny, Rosabelle XD!
DeleteDerek's mistake is step 2 because he divided inaccurately. But, step 1 is accurate because he did inverse operation which he use division. The real answer from Derek's mistake is d=9 because he solve step 2 erroneous. Derek should of get d=9 instead he got d=8. Derek could of check his answer by replacing his variable with the answer he got to check if its incorrect.
ReplyDeleteVery nice Manding... Very nice indeed
Delete▪ his answer is not reasonable
ReplyDelete▪ Derek maDe a mistake on step 2
▪ the correct answer is d=9 not d=8
▪ Derek could've replace the variable with his answer to check his answer
▪ Or he could just use the calculator to see if 72÷8=8 so he would know if his answer is wrong
Nice response Patreisha.
DeleteDerek was correct on step 1. In step 2, his answer was d=8 when he was dividing 72 and 8. He didn't divide it correctly. So his answer is suppose to be d=9 not d=8. He could also check his answer by solving 72÷8 again or just use a calculator.
ReplyDeleteDerek made his mistake on step 2. He divided 72 between 8 wrong. As 72 divided by 8 is actually 9.
ReplyDeleteAwesome explanation Juan Ada, very simple!
DeleteDerek made a mistake on step 2 because he stated that d=8. He could have check his answer by dividing 72 to 8(which he said equals to d). The correct answer would be 9 because 72/8 would be 9.
ReplyDeleteNice explanation maritoni i agree with the way you did it and your answer
DeleteDerek is correct on step 1 however on step 2 he incorrectly divided 72 by 8 and got 8 when the correct answer was 9.
ReplyDeletederek is wrong on step two because 72/8 s 9 and not 8. he has to calculate carefully next time to get his work correct.
